Monroe Lift

The Monroe hydraulic lift, which enables the Jeep to use standard 3-point farming implements. The optional rear power take-off (PTO) unit allows the Jeep to function as a light-duty utility tractor. The lift was the third “Jeep Approved” model and was in production for almost a decade.

The Monroe lift design was a major departure from the Love and the later Newgren under-bed configuration. We have been able to document some of the lift’s history, along with original manuals, ads, and even new technical drawings (see below). In addition, in 1948, Monroe produced what we now call an infomercial to introduce the lift. It can be seen here.

Clint Dixon has written about the Monroe Lift’s history in a two-part series that appeared in The Dispatcher magazine.
